Who We Are

Michael Hiller is a Texas Board Certified family lawyer with over 33 years of legal and mediation experience handling all kinds of family law cases. His goal is to fight for you and your family through a higher standard of practice.

Michael has been ranked 4X in the top 1% of lawyers nationwide by the National Association of Distinguished Counsel. He helps clients with various family law issues such as divorce, child custody, property divisions, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, mediation, and collaborative law. He is known for working with you, the client, to provide innovative solutions while offering a traditional practice.

His Collaborative Arbitration - A HIGHER STANDARD OF PRACTICE - should be YOUR model for your divorce or child custody case. He implements as many of these standards as possible in every case he handles.

Interested in more than just facilitating divorce through the courts, Michael was one of the first lawyers in Texas to become a mediator 33 years ago. He attended the very first training in Texas for collaborative divorce. Michael is also one of the few lawyers dedicated to helping couples learn better relationship skills. For example, his reconciliation law practice focuses on marriage improvement, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, and divorce and anti-divorce petitions.

Michael has been certified and trained in many areas, such as Divorce Trials, Collaborative & Reconciliation law, and Mediation. He is a founding member of The American Academy for Certified Financial Litigators (AACFL), an organization dedicated to educating lawyers about financial and property issues. Michael has experience with narcissistic spouses who commit financial abuses and try to “screw you” out of your fair share of your marital estate. He will fight for you and your children in this challenging but not impossible situation.

In 2018, he received attorney training from Children 4 Tomorrow (C4T) for handling cases involving high-conflict personalities and parental alienation. He has discovered that finding the most efficient way to handle these complex cases is critical. He will guide you toward assessing your ex, lawyer, and judge's attitude toward your subject. He will help you be realistic about what you can afford and balance that with how your case can be resolved. Finally, he will help you determine what you will likely deal with after your case ends. Then, he will customize his approach for the best outcome.

Last but not least, Michael is a family man. He has been married to Minette Hiller since 1982 and has five children, including a son-in-law and a daughter's fiance—one born in '91, two in '92, and one each in ‘94 and ‘07. He finds the key to maintaining a healthy family is to make them Number 1 while still making his clients Number 1!  He says the keys to rearing successful children are being tough, loving, and having fun!
